Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurological disease. It is commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease -- named after the great New York Yankee first baseman who died of it in 1941. The ALS Association (ALSA) is the only national not-for-profit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS.
